The Birch Bloom earrings pay homage to the beautiful tradition of birch bark etching. Characteristic of ' work, the Birch Bloom earrings carry forth the Ojibwe floral tradition of teaching about plants that care for the water, including wild taro, yellow flag, and duckweed.
These beautiful earrings were developed during Sarah's recent visit to the Eighth Generation headquarters and are lovingly assembled by Eighth Generation staff in our Seattle studios. They are cut from real cherry wood and high resolution printed with multiple layers of protective coating.

Cultural Context:
These examples of traditional Ojibwe birch bark carving are done by Sarah’s brother, Thomas Howes, and show the lighter outer bark and how when stripped away it reveals the darker color beneath.
